Gambia: The chief

November 22, 2014 · ADVOCACY

Fatou Danso is a farmer…. but she is also The Gambia’s first female village chief. Fatou has introduced many firsts to her village. The land here was once only farmed by men. But now Fatou has distributed the land to women too and together they have formed a vegetable garden scheme. Now some of these women are supporting their husbands with what they earn from selling their produce.

I’ve been working as a cameraman with Joanne Levitan from IFAD, Institute for Agricultural Development.
